Following the success of the 2016 Flower Festival, the Friends of Blackburn
Cathedral are currently working towards the next festival in June 2020.

As part of the festival preparations the designers have generously offered to run
some free flower arranging demonstrations for Parishes in the Diocese. These
will be held in the Cathedral and are aimed at inspiring anyone interested in church
flowers from the novice to those with many years’ experience.

The demonstrations will be free of charge, and run on Tuesday 8 October at 10am
and 2pm lasting about 2 hours and will include tea, coffee and cake. Places will
be allocated on a first come first served basis.

The Flower Festival will be entitled “Heaven and Earth” and part of the design will
involve the creation of glorious angels in the South Transept. There will be
opportunities for parishes to be part this major installation by crafting individual
feathers which will be brought together in stunning angel wing collages put
together by the Design Team. There will be more information on 8 October when
you can learn how you and members of your community can take part. As well as
inspirational ideas for flowers and feathers it is hoped that everyone will take away
a template to share with their parish so that everyone who wishes can make their
own contribution. Short prayers can be written on the back of the feathers and
lifted heavenward in June.
