Parishes invited to mark the importance of safeguarding

We are a Diocese that takes safeguarding very seriously and we want to make it clear whenever we can.

Safeguarding is the protection of those in our care. In 1 Corinthians 13, we’re told that love protects. Safeguarding is an act of love.

We also want to thank the people who support our parishes in this area of work; those in the central Diocesan Safeguarding Team alongside our Parish Safeguarding Officers.

The perfect opportunity to remind people of the importance of safeguarding AND say thank you to those who make a difference in your parishes is coming up this November.

Safeguarding Sunday this year is November 15 and gives us all a chance to shout about safeguarding and the importance of helping to protect vulnerable people of all ages.

The initiative, spearheaded by Thirtyone:eight, invites us all to come together to reflect on their safeguarding journey and highlight all the good work that is being done to create safer places.

Watch a video about it here and mark it in your parish diary and make plans to mark it locally.

Why not post a thank you video on your social media channels (along the lines of the 'Recognise' campaign videos we encouraged people to share in the summer to thank children and young people's leaders).

You could also share something about how you are marking the day locally in other ways. Many parishes get very creative.
