The Bishop of Blackburn has spoken against Government plans for a social media ban for under-16s in a wide-ranging interview with BBC Radio Lancashire presenter Joe Wilson.

The interview with Bishop Philip North follows the publication on the Diocesan website of an article in which the Bishop says the ban could be a 'blunt and simplistic instrument' and could have 'unintended consequences' leading to increased loneliness in the age group.

The Bishop calls instead for 'a new deal for the young' and reinvestment in youth work and youth centres and cites the 'Ignite' programme in our Diocese, funded by the national church to enable local churches to be ambitious about the way they resource the lives of young people, as a good example of what is possible.
