The Government is testing the UK’s Emergency Alerts system again on Sunday, 7 September at 3pm.

Emergency Alerts is a UK government system that provides warning and advice in a life-threatening emergency.

The government does not need to know your phone number or location to send you an alert.
What happens when you get an emergency alert?

Wherever you are, at home or out and about, your mobile phone or tablet may make a loud siren-like sound, even if it’s set on silent; vibrate; and read out the alert.

The sound and vibration will last for about 10 seconds.

While there will be government reminders in the media, as a public service you may want to make your parish or school aware, so as many people as possible are prepared and are not concerned.

Please note that the alert will happen even if you have your phone turned off. If you or anyone you know has a phone hidden for reasons of personal security it's important to note you CAN turn off the alert completely.

To opt out on iPhone; go to your settings, select notifications, scroll to the bottom, turn off severe alerts and extreme alerts. To opt out on Android, search settings for emergency alerts, turn off severe alerts and extreme alerts.
