Equipped: Raising Kids for Christ - Leyland St Andrew

You are invited to our ‘Equipped’ morning at St Andrew’s Church, Leyland, on 19th September from 9am-12pm, with Mel Lacy.

Mel is the Executive Director of ‘Growing Young Disciples’ which is a charitable organisation that exists to serve and support parents, volunteer leaders, churches and full-time workers in the work of raising the next generation to know Christ.

As Im sure you will be aware, our children and young people are growing up surrounded by powerful messages about who they are and how they should understand the world around them. Through school, friendships, films, music and social media, they are constantly being taught what makes a person valuable, where truth comes from and what a good life looks like.

And so, Mel is coming to help us think through how we help, encourage and disciple our children and young people to know and live for Christ in a confusing world.

During this practical morning together, Mel will lead two sessions:

1. How do I understand myself?

We will explore the messages children and young people receive about identity, including the pressure to look inside themselves, follow their feelings and create their own story. We will consider how the Bible gives them a deeper, more secure and more hopeful understanding of who they are, rooted in their relationship with God and, for those who trust him, their union with Christ.

2. How do I understand the world?

We will think about how culture shapes the way children and young people see reality, often without them noticing. We will explore how parents, grandparents, godparents, children's and youth leaders, and the wider church family can help them recognise the beliefs beneath the films, music, social media and ideas they encounter. Together, we will consider how to equip them to engage with the world wisely, confidently and faithfully.

The morning will help us move beyond fear, withdrawal or simply telling children and young people what Christians are against.

Instead, we will consider how the whole church can play its part in nurturing a generation who are rooted in Christ, shaped by Scripture and ready to live for Jesus in a confusing world.

So, whether you are a parent, grandparent, godparent, volunteer leader, a full-time worker or just someone who has a heart for children and young people knowing and living for Jesus, then why don’t you sign up and come along? (And, it’s only £5 for the whole morning).

Please sign up by simply scanning the QR Code below - this is only so we know how many people to expect.
