This free course is suitable for anyone who is currently a volunteer, but also for people considering becoming a Volunteer.
You can do the whole 5 weeks of the course (for which you will get an accreditation), or just one of the last three sessions if you don't want to do the whole course.
Volunteer Training Programme
Starts Monday 6 November - 9:30am-12:30pm
6 November: Week 1 - Introduction to Volunteering
Learners will:
• Explore why people volunteer • Identify the benefits to volunteering in their local community • List the skills and qualities required • Begin the qualification workbook.
13 November: Week 2 - award in Volunteering
Learners will:
Explore the responsibilities they have as a volunteer.• Highlight safe practices when volunteering.• Discuss where to find volunteer opportunities• Complete the qualification workbook.
20 November: Week 3 - Safeguarding
Complete the Open Award L2 Understanding Safeguarding Procedures.• Distinguish who constitutes as a vulnerable adult.• Demonstrate an understanding of how to act upon a safeguarding concern.• Examine the different types of abuse and how these may come to light.• Assess the risk when volunteering and prepare strategies for keeping yourself safe.• Summarise what kind of information you will have access to and how to keep it safe.
27 November: Week 4 - Equality and Diversity
Complete the Open Award E3 Recognising and Supporting Equality and Diversity• Define terms associated with Equality and Diversity.• Identify what British Values are and how they apply to voluntary settings and wider society.• Recognise own attitudes and how to challenge these.• Outline how to recognise stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination in the workplace and what action could be taken • Identify the 9 protected characteristics and summarise how this applies to legislation.
4 December: Week 5 - Intro to conflict
Complete the Open Award L1 Behaviour in Conflict• Recognise their own attitudes towards conflict• Understand the reasons why people initiate conflict• Be aware of solutions of to resolve conflict• Use real life conflict situations to learn about resolution.
