Training programme 2017/18

INTRODUCTION

The Church of England requires everyone who holds the Bishop’s license or commission – Clergy, Readers, Commissioned Pastoral Visitors - Church Wardens, Parish Safeguarding Co-ordinators, PCC Safeguarding Leads and all volunteers and paid workers who work with children, young people and vulnerable adults to attend safeguarding training every three years.

The following information lists the current modules and who should attend as part of the Blackburn Diocesan Training Strategy 2017-2018

As from November 2017 we will be delivering a combined course for those who need to complete C1 followed by C2 - this will be the C1 & C2 combined course and the only course you will need to book on.

Anyone not needing to progress to C2 will just need to book on a C1 course.

The Core Modules

C0 - Basic Safeguarding Awareness

This is an e-learning awareness raising session that looks at the church context WHICH EVERYONE MUST COMPLETE ONLINE (anyone who has a role within the church including helpers)

C1 - Safeguarding Foundation for Lay People

This session builds on C0 to explore safeguarding in the church context, what abuse is and how to respond and report it.

C2 ( C1 and C2 combined) - Safeguarding Foundation and Leadership for Lay People

This session covers C1 and builds on it, looking at the responsibilities of various roles and the implementation of safeguarding practices and procedures.

C3 - Safeguarding Foundation and Leadership

This session combines  C1 and C2 and looks at safeguarding for those who hold the Bishop’s license or commission.

C5 - Refresher

This session refreshes and deepens personal knowledge on the practice of safeguarding. (C5 will not be available until 2018)

S1 Safer Recruitment

This module looks at statutory guidance and legislation in relation to safer recruitment and helps participants to develop a deeper understanding of The Church of England’s recruitment procedures.

S3 Responding to Domestic Abuse

This module examines issues relating to domestic abuse, especially for vulnerable groups and children in the context of adult abuse, and how the Church can respond well to this.
