The Growing Leaders team is being reshaped to support the implementation of the Lay Majority Ministry Framework, beginning with the appointment of Ruth Haldane as Warden of Lay Ministry.
Ruth took up her new role on March 1st 2020, and will play a key role in implementing our new lay ministry framework. She has oversight of all forms of lay ministry, with a particular focus on Licenced Lay Ministry (LLM, formerly Reader Ministry) and our new Authorised Lay Ministry (ALM) pathway. Ruth will work closely with a team of volunteer Assistant Wardens of Lay Ministry spread across the diocese who will be appointed in the coming months.
Ruth is an LLM in Clitheroe and brings a wealth of lay ministry experience from a wide range of contexts, including most recently her national work for the Central Readers Council which is playing a key part in reimagining licenced lay ministry for the 21st century.
When asked about becoming Warden of Lay Ministry for the Diocese of Blackburn, Ruth said ‘I am thrilled to take up this new post and look forward to energetically encouraging all forms of lay ministry across the county’.
The Director of Vocations, the Revd Nick McKee, said ‘I am delighted that Ruth is to be our new Warden of Lay Ministry. Her appointment to this role embodies our desire to have an integrated approach to all forms of lay ministry in the Diocese of Blackburn because we passionately believe that all of God’s people are called to exercise ministries of some form.’

Other appointments, including a new Lay Training Officer to take over from Mandy Stanton, will follow in due course.
