Help to transform and transfigure the church on Church Action on Poverty Sunday, 26 February 2017!

“And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white.”

On the mountain top at the Transfiguration, Jesus and his disciples were transformed. But they were not called to stay on the mountain top, separate from the world. They were sent on a mission back into the world – a mission that led Jesus to surrender all his power and be killed on the cross.

Church Action on Poverty Sunday will be on 26 February 2017. This date is marked as Transfiguration Sunday in many churches. We're asking churches to join us on that day and reflect on Pope Francis’ challenge to Christians everywhere: to build a “poor church, that is for the poor”. If our churches are truly to be communities that put the poorest first, how do we need to change? What must we let go of? What are the sacrifices that we are called to make?

How can we allow God to transform us into a “poor Church for the poor”?

Church Action on Poverty helps churches to respond to that call. On Church Action on Poverty Sunday, you can help transform and transfigure the church.

  • Hold a collection or soup lunch – your donations can transform more churches through listening and engaging with people in poverty .
  • Use our worship materials to reflect and pray for change.

Please put the date in your diary now - 26 February, Transfiguration Sunday! We'll be in touch again soon, with resources and ideas for how you can get involved.
