The Archbishop of York to visit the Diocese

The Archbishop of York, The Most Rev. and Rt Hon. Dr John Sentamu is visiting The Church of England in Lancashire on November 4 and 5.

On these pages, via the links on the right, is everything you need to know about the visit.

While the Archbishop is in the Diocese he will carry out a number of key engagements including visits to St Michael’s High School in Chorley where a ‘Vocations Conference’ will be taking place; the University of Central Lancashire Chaplaincy Centre in Preston; Blackburn Cathedral; Preston Minster; Mitton Church and St John's Church Accrington, where he will lead a service involving 550 local school children.

The highlight of the two days will be a fantastic mission event ‘Light in Darkness’.

It takes place at 7.30pm on November 4 in the fabulous Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Make sure you bring a friend or family member (or several) who may not know Jesus, to hear the Archbishop’s powerful testimony.

Doors open at 6.30pm, so get there nice and early as the illuminations are still on that evening. There is extensive parking near the Tower – see the link on the right for where to park.

Printed promotional materials for ‘Light in Darkness’ have been circulated to all clergy for local distribution and other promotional materials for use online have also been sent via email to all parishes. This includes a link to a message on our YouTube channel from the Archbishop himself!

There will be coverage in all local media, including on BBC Radio Lancashire, and you can follow the visit live via regular updates on our social media channels (links on the right).

Also on the right are links to take you to the latest news about the visit; the itinerary for the two days; promotional materials for the ‘Light in Darkness’ event on November 4 and information about how to get to ‘Light in Darkness’ as well as local parking near Blackpool Tower. There are also links to background information on the Archbishop. Get clicking!
