War, peace and the origins of the white feather...school pupils explore the lessons of the First World War with exciting new educational resources.
Education chiefs in the new Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales commissioned RE adviser and RE expert, Lat Blaylock of RE Today to write a series of packages to help pupils better understand the lessons of WW1 to tie in with the diocesan church and church school poppy planting campaign and mark this historic centenary.

WW1 County Service
A special service was held at Blackburn Cathedral on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 4pm for all in the county who wished to commemorate the start of the First World War. Each Church of England Parish was invited to send a representative to join in this Act of Worship.
The service involved the rededication of the rebuilt cathedral War Memorial. Candles with the image of a poppy were blessed by the Bishop. Each Parish was able to collect a candle for use on key anniversaries during the centenary years of the War from now until 1918. You can read a full report about the service in the news archive, accessible via the homepage.
