Sustainability in a broader sense also embraces the idea of how church buildings can be used in a variety of ways in order to sustain their existence.
Hereford Diocese have produced a really helpful toolkit available for any churches wanting to explore wider community use for their buildings.
There are some excellent examples of good practice in this respect across the Diocese, such as Afternoon Tea in at Yealand Conyers St. John ( above) and the community gym at Warton St. Oswald parish Hall (below).
The Arthur Rank Centre
has an excellent web site resource packed with advice on use of church buildings, especially in a rural context.
