Lancaster & Morecambe

The Area Dean is Rev Linda Macluskie -  lindamacluskie55@gmail.com

Welcome to the Lancaster & Morecambe Deanery page on the Diocese of Blackburn’s website.

I am Linda Macluskie, the Area Dean and Vicar of Sandylands St John, Heysham.

Our Deanery is situated in the north west of the Diocese and straddles the M6 from Forton Services to junction 34 of the motorway where there is currently much evidence of a new link road being built and which, when completed, will greatly improve accessibility from the motorway to Heysham and Morecambe.

This Deanery has a wonderful mix of rural parishes which are located out towards the Trough of Bowland and around the coastal area of Glasson Dock and urban parishes which are grouped around the City of Lancaster and the seaside town of Morecambe. There are 17 parishes in total in the Deanery which look after 24 places of worship.

There are 13 Church Primary Schools in the Deanery as well as a Church of England and Catholic High School. The Deanery also boasts 2 Universities, the University of Cumbria and Lancaster University.

The churches in this Deanery are actively involved in the life of the community which they serve but they also offer places of welcome, love and hope where all are valued, where all are included and where all people come together as the children of God to worship.

I hope you have enjoyed browsing this page and I would like to encourage you to visit one of our churches soon and I am confident that you would find a very warm and genuine welcome.

Grace and peace
Linda

 Parish Spotlight

The spotlight brings together a range of information about parishes, both in terms of congregations, but also the wider community living in the area. It covers areas such as Christian affiliation, population age and ethnicity profiles, household structures, deprivation, employment, schools and qualifications, alongside church statistics such as attendance and giving. Although this information dates from 2012 it is still a very useful tool.
