Climate Justice Fund

The National Church has established a Climate Justice Fund as part of its response to Shrinking the Footprint.

A GLOBAL RESPONSE TO POVERTY IN A CHANGING CLIMATE

Across the world, the poorest and most vulnerable people – those who contribute least to the problem – will continue to suffer unless we act now

The Climate Justice Fund gives you and your church the opportunity to compensate for the size of your carbon footprint

Details can be found on www.climatejusticefund.org.uk why not log on and find out more?

Diocese joins 10:10 campaign

10:10 logoThe Diocese has officially joined the 10:10 campaign. The what?

10:10 is a campaign to commit ourselves to reduce our energy use by 10% in 2010. What could be easier and more beneficial? It saves money, reduces pollution and fits with our own Shrinking the Footprint campaign all in one go

Whilst we have signed up as an organisation we would encourage all individuals and parishes to do the same. A 10% cut is SMART. It is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. If we do it now - we all benefit together. Join in by going to the 10:10 website

CO2PENHAGEN CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE

What is happening?

The Copenhagen Climate Change conference in December is the most important gathering of world leaders since the meeting in Kyoto 1997. The Kyoto protocol expires in 2012 and this meeting will set the pattern for its replacement

We need to make sure that we ensure a fair deal for the world’s poor. It is probably the last chance we have to keep global temperature rises below 2oC

If we do that we avoid:

  • water shortages for up to 3 billion people
  • flooding nearly 20% of Bangladesh by rising sea levels
  • 60 million more people exposed to malaria
  • 30 million more people going hungry

What can you do?

Join THE WAVE in London on 5th December

  • 11.00 am Westminster Central Hall – Worship with Archbishop Rowan and Archbishop Vincent Nichols
  • 12 noon activities for young people in Westminster Central Hall

Worship and activities lead straight into the march which leaver Grosvenor Square at 1.00 pm

You are asked to wear blue on the march
