Pilgrimage to Holy Land with Bishop Philip North
A Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Holy Land with Bishop Philip North
Monday 13 November to Thursday 23 November 2017
A Pilgrimage to the Holy Land is an experience that you will never forget. At the heart of our faith as Christians is a God who in Jesus has been born and lived among us, so a chance to walk literally in his steps, to visit the towns and villages he went to, to breathe the air that he breathed is a powerful way of experiencing afresh his presence and power in our lives.
In the Holy Land, Scripture comes to life and you will never hear it again in the same way. The liturgical year and the great events of Christmas and Easter speak to us like never before. You will go home changed, refreshed, renewed and more prepared than ever to live out your faith in your daily life.
In this pilgrimage, we will not only visit the places associated with our faith. We will also meet the Living Stones of the Church today. Christians in the Middle East have faced tough times in recent years, and it will be a great privilege for us to meet members of local churches and hear their stories. Like every pilgrimage, ours will be surrounded by prayer, and we will celebrate the Eucharist each day, often in places of great drama and beauty. There will also be plenty of time to relax, to enjoy each other’s company and to delight in some beautiful places.
As pilgrims, we have a responsibility for carrying the prayers of others, and as we go to the Holy Land we will take the plans we have as a Diocese to grow in our common life in the way outlined by Vision 2026. That Vision talks about us growing as Disciples of Christ, and there are few better ways of doing this than making a pilgrimage to the place where Jesus lived. I hope and pray that you will be able to join us.
