Background

Steve Cox - WardenChrist Church PCC and the Wardens with the vicar, the Revd Kevin Logan, form a partnershipDavid Graham - Warden striving to fulfil what they believe is the Lord's calling and direction. They seek to do this in line with the following agreed...

Mission of the Church
By the power of the Holy Spirit, Christ Church exists to worship God and, with fellow Christians, to show his love...
-in leading people to Christ,
-in serving the community,
-and in building up people in the Christian faith.

Reason for our Mission
A Parish Audit identified many needs in and around the Church. This drove us to plan for a community base. We were fortunate in forming partnerships with others in the community, like the local Council and Woodnook Forum for Action, of which the vicar is vice-chairman.

New Centre
We raised and spent £140,000 establishing community rooms, a kitchen and extra toilets. We installed new heating and electrics and now the centre is home not only to the church family but also to. . .
Alcoholics Anonymous,
A thriving open youth club
Coffee morning
Community Toddler group,
A weekly self-defence group,
The Community action group, Woodnook Forum plus many others.

Sure Start
We are now set to open up a half-a-million pound community care project with Sure Start Hyndburn to provide quality child care, training for single mums, IT facilities, pre- and ante-natal care, training in parent skills, and whatever else is needed in the community. This will be fully operational with several full-time and part-time staff by Sept 2006. The vicar has become one of the trustee directors of Sure Start Hyndburn.

Local Ecumenical Partnership
The next exciting venture for Christ Church was to join with Cannon Street Baptist in a single-congregation ecumenical partnership. This happened in September 2006 when we became a new church of God - a new body of Christ - in South Accrington known as
Christ Church with Cannon Street and our new logo is

From the Vicar:

Rev Kevin Logan

Jesus said it wouldn't be easy. It will be hard to be his follower, but he promises to be with us to the end of time and to all the corners he sends us to, and into.

It is financially hard to keep going but Christ Church rises to the challenge magnificently. We continue to survive and that in itself is an achievement in these days of falling numbers. The Lord continues to be with us.

Our hope and our mission is to continue to reach out with the Lord's love and compassion. We shall be able to do this much more effectively now our building is restructured.
